Fifteen years ago, I realized that the same ideals that inspired me to pursue medicine as a career prompted me to seek interventional cardiology as my choice of specialty. Like every other child, I dreaded the thought of taking medicines. I was only six years old when I told my mother over a spoon of unpalatable cough medicine that my goal in life was to find medicines that taste better. Although I have come a long way from my quest for better tasting medicines, the world of medicine and the desire to relentlessly push the frontiers of medicine continues to play an integral role in my career.
I completed my medical training at University of Cincinnati College of Medicine in Cincinnati, Ohio; Internal Medicine residency and Cardiovascular Disease fellowship training at University Hospitals Case Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio; and Interventional Cardiology and Endovascular Medicine subspecialty fellowship training at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
I am married with two children and reside in the City of Philadelphia and love the city we were transplanted into through medical training and have grown roots in over the last decade.
Professionally, I have been recognized for my role and accomplishments as Director of the Cardiac Cath Lab and Co-Director of Cardiovascular Research at Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia for the last 5 years and previously as Assistant Director of the Cath Lab and Director of Clinical Research at Deborah Heart and Lung Center in New Jersey for 7 years. While managing and growing the breadth of interventional cardiovascular services in both of these institutions, I have fine-tuned the art and skill of complex coronary and peripheral endovascular interventions to the point of being referred complex vascular interventional work from around the region in diverse vascular beds. My clinical expertise and excellence is evidenced by my various awards and recurrent nomination as Top Doc in Philadelphia and New Jersey along with extensive network of referrals from area and regional physicians.
The business of medicine is increasingly appealing to me which led me to pursue a Masters in Business Administration at Temple University Fox School of Business, that I recently completed in December 2020. I hope to apply the concepts and skills achieved through this matriculation into the management and delivery of exceptional cardiovascular care in this region.
Medical education is of extreme importance and has been ever since the completion of my education and training. I have trained over 25 interventional fellows over my past decade of practice and enjoy the daily interaction I have with medical students, residents, fellows, and subspecialty fellows in advancing their careers in medicine. I remain in close communication with most of my fellows and take pride in continuing my mentorship to the best of my capacity.
Research is a pivotal component of a pioneering physician and so it is with me. Over my watch as Director of Research, the clinical research enterprise has grown exponentially at both institutions and now boasts over 30 studies with innovative clinical trials offering cutting-edge treatment options for patients. I have published more than 100 papers in reputable journals, book chapters, and textbooks, and serve as a reviewer and editorial board member for multiple journals. I am also Editor of the popular Evidence-Based Guide to Interventional Cardiology and Endovascular Medicine. I am currently in the process of writing a non-fictional short story book on physician experience as a patient when the roles reverse, which should be available in print by the end of 2021.
Finally, I have been a member of the Greater Philadelphia community of cardiologists over the past decade and have made extensive contacts in the area through various collaborative initiatives across multiple health systems and academic programs. To that end, I founded the Academy for Cardiovascular Collaboration in 2014 to facilitate the networking and collaboration of cardiovascular specialists in the area to improve patient care and optimize the level of medical care provided within this region. I hope to continue to grow that culture of community within the cardiovascular specialists to disperse knowledge and continue to train future generations of healthcare providers.
Today, as a nationally recognized cardiovascular medicine specialist, I am passionate about clinical excellence, medical education, and cutting-edge research and hope it resonates when you meet me or allow me to participate in your care.
